Public Works Department

The Municipality of Yarmouth invites applications for a full-time position with the Public Works Department.

This position will work as a member of the Public Works team in ensuring the maintenance and operation of Municipal infrastructure.


  • Minimum education of grade 12 (or equivalent)
  • Physically capable of performing grounds keeping related activities and various maintenance tasks (ability to lift heavy loads)
  • Must be willing to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Show initiative in your work and be able to work with little supervision
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems with mechanical and electrical systems
  • Flexibility with work hours and availability to be on-call
  • Good communication skills and ability to deal with the public in a professional manner
  • Good time management skills and ability to prioritize workload
  • Ability to operate and maintain heavy equipment
  • Basic computer skills
  • Willing to take other training as required
  • Class 3 driver’s license, or ability to obtain (and other as required)
  • Will be required to provide driving abstract and background check prior to hiring.

The Municipality of Yarmouth has been receiving inquiries concerning employment possibilities associated with the operation of the Yarmouth Ferry Terminal.  This is the responsibility of the Ferry Terminal operator.
