MoDY Council continues to foster, encourage and support commercial development through its most recent initiative for commercial properties.

The addition of programs and services demonstrate Council's commitment to support local businesses in the municipality, as well as those considering establishing roots here.  Recent changes to the Municipal Government Act provide Municipal Councils with such a mechanism through the establishment of Commercial Development District Improvement Plans (CDDIP's).

The intent of the CDDIP, by using a Development Rebate Program, is to support local business and stimulate economic growth through new construction, remediation of properties and the expansion or renovation of existing commercial space in designated Commercial Development Districts (CDD).

The Development Rebate Program will provide property tax relief to owners of commercial properties in the CDD, by providing an annual partial rebate on property taxes paid, based on new and incremental development of their eligible properties while meeting certain conditions as established by the CDDIP.  The phasing-in of the partial tax rebates could happen over a period of up to ten years.

This spring, Municipal staff will host an information session where interested commercial property owners can learn more about the CDDIP.

If you are considering making significant capital investments to your commercial building, contact the Economic Development Office at 1-902-742-7159 to see if you qualify for the Municipality of Yarmouth's Development Rebate Program.
